Safeguarding and Child Protection

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children refers to the process of protecting children from maltreatment, preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development, ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Child protection refers to the processes undertaken to protect children who have been identified as suffering or being at risk of suffering significant harm.

Boyne Hill CE Infant & Nursery School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We believe that children have a right to live and learn in a supportive, caring and safe environment which includes the right to protection from all types of abuse.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed below. This policy is in line with the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a pupil's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about a pupil are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the pupil's welfare.

If, at any point, there is a risk of immediate, serious harm to a child, a referral will be made to Children’s Services – Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub Referral & Assessment Team.
