Eco Council

Meet our Eco Council members 2019-20

Our Eco Council is lead by Reception teacher Mrs Julia Norris and whilst all of Foundation Stage 2 are an Eco Community, two children from each Year 1 and Year 2 class are selected in a democratic vote at the beginning of each school year to represent their class at meetings.

The Eco Council members are involved in all things related to the environment and take an active role in writing each year's Action Plan.

This year we are focusing on:

  • raising awareness of endangered animals both here in the UK and in the wider global community
  • raising awareness of the damage of single use plastic
  • global citizenship in terms of Fairtrade goods

In 2018-19 we focused on Fair Trade and where our food comes from.

In 2017-18 we focused on recycling and healthy living and we all kept a 'sleep diary' over the May half term to see just how much sleep we got.

We have also sponsored a Snow Leopard with the World Wildlife Fund and hold annual 'healthy' cake sales to raise funds for this project.

We sold our organic lettuces after school

We held a second-hand book sale to recycle good quality books

We collect our fruit waste and use it to make compost

Lots of children come to school on their bicycles or scooters because it is a healthier way to travel and reduces pollution
